Heart-Rending Tales

The Ivybridge & District Camera Club started their 2012 season with a full hall at Bittaford to hear travel stories and view the photographs of Exeter-based travel photographer, Ian Wright.

Ian delighted us with tales of his exploits, which in part were regular photography hot-spots trips such as Cuba, Morocco and India but also heart-rending tales from less exotic places he has worked in such as Palestine. There were so many prints to view that we had three sessions of displaying the photos, which gave Ian a breather while members wandered among the prints for a closer view.

The club only had two meetings in January and the second was a leg of the Merit Print League competition. Max Danby from Torbay kindly judged the two sections of the competition and entertained as well as educated us with a strong critique and lots of humour.

The Colour section was won by Kevin Staddon from Plymouth with ‘Railed Horizon’, a seascape framed in a perfectly aligned railing. Second place went to Geoff Brimblecombe from Ivybridge with a crisp photo of a bird with nesting material, while Gert Landers, also from Ivybridge came third with ‘Birdwatching in the Mist’ taken on an atmospheric morning at Filham Park.

Bernard Howley from Saltash won the Monochrome section with ‘Lucky Dip’ a bird taking a fish from a bucket. Stuart Barnes from Plymouth took both the second and third place accolades with ‘Decaying Leaf’ and ‘Pots on a Shelf’.

The club normally meets three times a month on the 1st, 2nd & 4th Tuesday from 7:30 at the Bittaford Community Hall. Visitors are always welcome and more information can be found on this website.
