Two club league competitions were held in May and the first, part of the Digitally Projected league, was held on the 11th and was kindly judged by Pete Norwood from Plymouth. Neil Doggett took first place with ‘The Sharp End’ a close up of his cat’s claw bordered by its shallow focus portrait. ‘Water Shoot’ by David Rayner came second with third place also being taken by Neil Doggett with ‘Reflection’. Pete Norwood also brought along a selection of his wonderful and award-winning Natural History images, making a well rounded-off and thoroughly enjoyed evening.

The second competition in May was a leg of the Merit league, kindly judged for us by John Hawkins of Newton Abbot. This competition has two parts and the Colour Print section was won by Kevin Staddon with ‘Girls Best Friend’, a bright and blue composition of a pair of shoes. A motocross image entitled ‘Action on Dirt’ by Keith Miller gained second place and Norman Simpson came third with ‘Cherry Red’. The Monochrome Print section was won by Gert Landers with ‘The Dice’, a cleverly composed and immaculately executed black and white tower of playing dice. Stuart Barnes took second place with ‘The Engine Driver’ and Kevin Staddon’s ‘The Fork’ was awarded third position.

A practical evening of Studio Lighting was kindly given by two Mikes, Mike Crowe from Newton Abbot and Mike Bond from Paignton. They brought with them two models Andy Wright and Dani Parker along with two complete sets of studio equipment. A trio of twos! Members’ cameras were fitted up with wireless links to the studio lighting and help was on hand from the two Mikes to get that elusive ‘perfect studio shot’ of upcoming models Dani and Andy. Many thanks are due to the two Mikes and to the models as well for a very enjoyable evening. Andy is standing for this year’s Face of Plymouth, an aspiring supermodel competition. We wish him good luck and plenty of votes.

Visitors are always welcome to club meetings and we meet at Bittaford Community Hall from 7:30 PM, normally on the first, second and fourth Tuesdays in the month. However, our summer break means the next regular meeting is on the 7th September. Our programme, members’ photographs and much more are all available elsewhere on this website.
