| An
annual multi-club photographic competition hosted at
Plymouth Camera Club was won by Ivybridge & District
Camera Club early in March. This is the second time
Ivybridge has won an inter-club competition in just
a few weeks and jubilation has been high ever since!
The Tamar Trophy is a monochrome only competition contested
by five local camera clubs. Ivybridge jointly won the
competition some years ago but this is the first time
the club has won the trophy outright. The best print
of the evening was judged to be from Terry Penney of
Saltash Camera Club.
A Show ‘Your
Own Work’ evening on the 9th March attracted a
good number of members to put in a range of presentations
from digital slide shows, mounted prints and audio-visual
shows. Several members put in presentations for the
first time and others invited discussion about their
work. A very enjoyable evening was had by all.
On the 23rd March
the club held the second Merit League competition, this
time with the tricky-to-interpret subject of ‘Creation’.
A range of intriguing solutions was presented to the
judge, Sheila Haycox of Exmouth Photo Group who pointed
out, “…although many photographers have
taken a broad interpretation of the subject, a good
number have been very resourceful which made the prints
interesting to judge.”
The Monochrome
section was won by Graham Buckler (Ivybridge) with an
admiring new dad holding his son called A Son For My
Son. Second place was awarded to Sue Bishop (Liverton)
with In the Beginning, whilst New Shoots by Neil Doggett
(Cornwood) earned 3rd Place. There were no 4th to 6th
places awarded as the monochrome entries totalled less
than 20.
Bob Brinkworth
(Plympton) took first place in the colour section with
The Wood Turner, while Keith Miller (Ivybridge) earned
second place with Creation of Another, one of just a
couple of animal mating images. Third position was secured
with Artistic Creation from Alan Bishop (Liverton).
4th to 6th places were awarded to Gert Landers, Stuart
Barnes and David Rayner.
Ivybridge Camera
Club has been asked to extend its photographic exhibition
at the South Brent Old School Gallery and Library and
the event will now run through to the end of April.
A change of photographs at the end of March allows the
community to see a range of images, many of which are
often local scenes. Entry is free, so do come along
and see members’ photographs. Open during Library
opening hours.
Visitors are
always welcome to club meetings and we meet at Bittaford
Community Hall from 7:30 PM, normally on the first,
second and fourth Tuesdays in the month. Our programme,
members’ photographs and much more are all available
elsewhere on this website.
