The annual three-way photographic competition between Saltash, Ivybridge and Liskeard camera clubs was won by Ivybridge & District Camera Club in a hard-fought battle recently. On Monday 22nd of February the three clubs got together at the Ashtorre Rock Community Centre in Saltash for the competition which was held in two parts – Mounted Prints and Digitally Projected Images. The hall was packed with supporters from all three clubs and fortunately, as it turned out, visitors from other clubs too.

By halfway through the competition Liskeard members were jubilantly sipping cups of tea and coffee as their digitally projected images had earned them the lead with 116 points as awarded by local photographer Richard Moule. Ivybridge at that stage were closely trailing the other two clubs – but there was all to play for in the second half with just four points separating all three clubs.

Sadly, during the break Richard received a message concerning the health of a family member and had to rush away but fortunately for the event he was able to leave his marks and notes in the capable hands of Sheila Haycox, a visitor from Exmouth Photo Group. Sheila critiqued the printed section and expertly discussed the photographs, but using Richard’s marks, kept the competition balanced.

By the end of the evening Ivybridge had soared into first place receiving a total of 232 points, with Saltash second (229 points) and Liskeard third (202 points).

A very good evening was had by an interactive and humorous audience and thanks are due to the excellent hospitality of Saltash Camera Club and also to judge Richard Moule and to Sheila Haycox for standing in and critiquing the prints ‘hot on the run’.

Ivybridge Camera Club is currently holding its annual photographic exhibition at the South Brent Old School Gallery and Library. The event, which runs until the end of March - possibly extendable to all of April, allows local communities to see a wide range of images, many of which are often local scenes. Entry is free, so do come along and see members’ photographs. Open during Library opening hours.

Visitors are always welcome to club meetings and we meet at Bittaford Community Hall from 7:30 PM, normally on the first, second and fourth Tuesdays in the month. Our programme, members’ photographs and much more are all available elsewhere on this website.
