The
2009 meeting year ended for the Ivybridge & District
Camera Club with just three events in December, two
of them – the AGM and the Best of Year competition
taking place on the same evening. The AGM took only
an hour to get through but brought with it a rather
special day for the club with the retirement from the
committee of two long-standing members.
Peter Pearce
has been a club member for over 12 years and on the
committee for much of that time. His quietly expressed
wisdom both in photography and in helping to run the
club will be much missed and many thanks are due for
his long stint on the committee.
Competition Secretary
Keith Mullin is a founder member of the club, which
was formed in 1982 and has been on the committee for
all but one of the intervening years. He has worked
tirelessly in many roles and besides undertaking demanding
roles such as Competitions Secretary, has always found
time to keep the club records as well as organise or
help out with events, club evenings and exhibitions.
Without Keith, the club would simply not be where it
is now.
Both Peter and
Keith work mainly in black & white and continue
to be members of the club. Many thanks are due for all
their valued work on the committee.
Three new members
were voted onto the committee: Sue Bishop from Liverton,
John Palmer of Harberton and Graham Buckler of Ivybridge.
Alan Davey from Ivybridge becomes an Officer as Internal
Competition Secretary.
After the AGM,
the winning prints and digitally projected images from
all of the year’s competitions were entered into
the Best of Year competitions. Voting on the evening
determines the winners, but members don’t get
to find out who’s won until the Presentation Dinner,
which this year was held just a week later on the 15th.
Fifty-one members & guests were catered for with
an excellent carvery and this along with the festively
decorated hall, good spirits and beverages, made for
a pleasant and well-appreciated evening.
Keith Mullin’s
last task as Competition Secretary was to announce the
winners of the year’s competitions, and via the
support of special guest Eric Cawsey from Plymouth,
to present their cups, trophies and certificates. Many
of the year’s wins have been recorded in these
columns throughout the year, but of course the Best
of Year and Merit Leagues have not.
Bernard Howley
from Saltash won both the Black & White and Colour
Print sections of the Best of Year competition with
two portraits: Powerful Profile, a gorilla
image and Demure Pelican, a colour close-up.
Sue Bishop won the Best of Year Digitally Projected
Image competition with Forgotten Corner, a
study of old bottles against a wall. There was no slide
section this year as slides have been replaced by DPIs
in all but the Bill Watson Memorial Slide Trophy. This
was won by Alan Davey back in September.
The most points
in the Merit League Colour Print section were collected
by Keith Miller of Ivybridge with Bernard Howley coming
second and Geoff Brimblecombe of Ivybridge third. In
the Black & White section Keith Mullin came first
with David Rayner of Ivybridge coming second and Stuart
Barnes of Eggbuckland third.
The Digitally
Projected Image Merit League was topped by Keith Miller,
with Stuart Barnes taking second position and David
Rayner third.
The National
Lottery Year’s Best Progress award went to John
Palmer of Harberton.
Visitors are
always welcome to club meetings and we meet at Bittaford
Community Hall from 7:30 pm, normally on the second
and fourth Tuesdays in the month. Our programme, members’
photographs and much more are all available elsewhere
on this website. |
