| The
Ivybridge & District Camera Club started 2009 with
a pair of self-judged competitions just two weeks apart
in January. Most of the remaining competitions this
year will be critiqued by invited judges.
The first, held
on the 13th, was an ‘open’ subject competition
but with all entries digitally projected. This competition
is part of a digital league with points going towards
a final tally at the end of the year.
Bernard Howley
from Saltash won this leg of the league with Peony,
a crisp head of pink petals with intricate stamina photographed
against a jet black background. Bernard’s image
thus gains entry to the Best of Year competition. Second
place was gained by Keith Mullin from Ivybridge with
a vulture portrait entitled Young Griffon,
its white fluffy neck perfectly exposed and looking
made of fur rather than feathers. Third place went to
John Palmer of Harberton with 5051 Rattery Bank
a dynamic image of a railway engine under full steam.
Points towards the league were also gained by Keith
Miller, Robin Empsall and Bruce Robinson, all from Ivybridge,
for places down to 6th.
Digitally projected
images will play a greater part in the competition side
of the club from this year on as in many competitions
they will replace the film slide entries.
The second January
competition, held on the 27th was first part of another
league, the Open Merit. From 2009 onwards this competition
will not have a film slide section.
The colour print
category was won by Ivybridge member Geoff Brimblecombe
with Wembury Sunset, a milky sea behind the
Mewstone reflecting an orange sky. Another sky and water
image, this time with a castle, called Boxing Day
Sunrise by Ross O’Dell from Aveton Gifford
took second place while third place was claimed by Keith
Miller of Ivybridge with a vertical landscape entitled
Lake District Falls. John Palmer came fourth
and Bernard Howley from Saltash gained both fifth and
sixth places.
The winning
print in the monochrome category was taken by Keith
Mullin from Ivybridge with a sinking ship image entitled
Shipwreck, while in second place was Window
Frames a series of ruined windows seen from within
windows by Kevin Moore of Ivybridge. A gritty Scottish
castle in a stormy sky called Ellen Donnan Castle
won third place for Bob Pike of South Brent. 4th to
6th places were awarded to Kevin Moore, David Rayner
and Margaret Martin.
Visitors are
always welcome to club meetings and we meet at Bittaford
Community Hall from 7:30 pm on the second and fourth
Tuesdays in the month. Our programme, members’
photographs and much more are all available elsewhere
on this web site.
