The Ivybridge & District Camera Club season ended early this year, but what a busy and entertaining finale it has been! On the 2nd of December the club held its fast-paced AGM which welcomed two new members to the committee; Margaret Martin and Alan Davey. This was followed on the same evening by the Best Photograph of the Year Competition, an event stirring keen anticipation for those successful enough to reach this stage in the year.

The best colour print of the year was judged to be ‘Great Blue Heron’ from Bernard Howley of Saltash while the best monochrome print of the year accolade went to Robin Empsall of Ivybridge with his ‘Ruin at Pompeii’. The best slide of the year was voted ‘The Net Mender’ from Keith Mullin of Ivybridge and the best digitally projected image of the year award went to Stuart Barnes of Plymouth for ‘Storm Clouds Brewing’.

In a move that continued the suspense for another week, votes were not counted until after the meeting and members had to wait until the presentation evening and annual dinner to find out who were the top photographers of the year.

Some sixty members and guests attended the presentation evening which was held in the Town Hall and graced by two Guests of Honour; Deputy Town Mayor, Mrs Frances Reeve and Councillor P Dredge. The venue was kindly made available by the Ivybridge Town Council Office for which the club gives its keen appreciation.

As well as the best of year awards mentioned above, the Deputy Town Mayor presented cups and shields to many other members for achievements in our various competitions throughout the year. Their names have been recorded in these pages throughout 2008.

The raffle raised £107 which this year has been given to Shelter Box. Many thanks are due to all those who brought tickets and donated the prizes and especially to John and Joyce Trussell who organised this and all our raffles through the year. Many thanks are also due to Tony Clements for the organisation of the evening along with his many helpers during the day. The event was topped off by a special ‘bring prints on the night’ competition with the theme Spirit of Christmas won by Colin Lennox-Jones with a festive picture of his granddaughter, while Tony Clements took second place - a just reward for all his hard work.

Visitors are always welcome to club meetings and we meet at Bittaford Community Hall from 7:30 pm on the second and fourth Tuesdays in the month plus occasional other Tuesdays. Our programme, members’ photographs and much more are all available on the club website: http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/ivybridgecameraclub
