The recent spate of poor weather managed to hold off
from rain on Saturday 12th July, when thirty-nine members
and guests took part in the Ivybridge & District
Camera Club annual summer outing, which this year was
a trip down the river Dart from Totnes to Dartmouth
by pleasure boat.
Members arrived
early for the departure, allowing time for some photography
at Totnes before boarding and selecting, after some
convoluted reasoning involving factors such as the direction
of the sun and the state of the tide, the most suitable
seats for taking pictures on the trip. The top and front
decks were the most favoured positions but the saloon
bar was also an option chosen by some! Once we were
underway a well-received commentary from the captain
pointed out places of interest and wildlife along the
river and pretty soon members were swapping those ‘prime’
seats or finding advantageous apertures in the boat
to aim their lenses through.
In Dartmouth,
the sky brightened even further and small parties set
off either to Kingswear and steam trains or to the town
and favourite places such as ancient Bayards Cove. For
many, pasties or fish and chips were top of the list
to start with while others made do with the traditional
ice cream between changing batteries and memory cards
in their cameras.
All too soon
it was time for the return boat to Totnes and a cup
of tea in the saloon bar or a chance for one of the
many photo opportunities missed on the way out. A very
good day out was enjoyed by all and many thanks are
due to Tony Clements, Keith Mason and Keith Mullin who
all took some part in the organisation of the trip.
Ivybridge &
District Camera Club normally meet at Bittaford Community
Hall from 7:30pm on the second and fourth Tuesdays in
the month. However, next meeting will be a practical
evening on September the 2nd followed by members’
travelogues on September the 9th. Our programme, members’
