Members and guests of the Ivybridge & District Camera
Club gathered at the Bittaford Community Hall on the
10th June to see their Challenge Cup prints and slides
critiqued by guest judge Marie Minchington from Callington,
Cornwall. It was a busy evening for Marie as she had
agreed to judge over 80 images rather than let the ‘reserve’
rule be employed which would have reduced the colour
prints by almost a third. Because of the large numbers,
marks down to sixth place were awarded in both the colour
and monochrome print competitions.
First place
in the colour print competition was taken by Bernard
Howley from Saltash with Great Blue Heron in Corkscrew
Swamp, while Geysers by Club Chairman
Keith Miller was awarded second place. A cleverly composed
image, Artist at Work won third position for
Norman Simpson from Ivybridge. Ivybridge members David
Rayner, Robin Empsall and Norman Simpson took the next
three places down to sixth.
The monochrome
print competition was won by Robin Empsall with Ruin
at Pompeii, a deep perspective image of a colonnaded
villa. A pelican Cooling Off won second place
for Geoff Brimblecombe while David Rayner took third
with a high-key image Delicate Poppy. Places
down to sixth were taken by Neil Doggett (2) and David
Rayner, both from Ivybridge.
The slide competition
was won by Alan Bishop from Newton Abbot with a dynamic
view of Widgery Cross while Himalayan Morning,
earned Ivybridge member Colin Wilkins second place.
David Rayner took third with Spanish Thistles.
The evening of
June 24th saw thirty members and guests turn up for
a walk and photo shoot around Venford Reservoir and
thence on to Combestone Tor for a hoped-for sunset photograph.
The weather and light was most favourable, although
tripods were an advantageous accessory and the possibility
of a good sunset tantalized members until the last.
It seemed those members who had retired to the local
hostelry earlier had made the right decision!
Summer activities
have now replaced our normal club evenings and the next
meeting at Bittaford Community Hall will be a practical
session on September the 2nd followed by members’
travelogues on September the 9th.
Our programme, members’ photographs and much more
are all available elsewhere on this website.
