Early March saw a couple of stimulating events for the
Ivybridge & District Camera Club. On March 6th the
club competed against a number of other photographic
clubs for the Tamar Trophy, which this year was held
at the venue for the Plymouth Camera Club at the Wolseley
Community Resource building in Plymouth. The Tamar Trophy
competition is held annually and is for monochrome images
only.
Ivybridge won joint
first place with Saltash Camera Club - a very creditable
position not previously achieved by Ivybridge. The two
clubs will each hold the Trophy for half of the year.
The overall winning image was won by Plymstock Camera
Club member Mr Ron Eaton.
On the 11th of
March members were treated to a lecture and image viewing
by Geoff and Jean Ashworth entitled ‘More Photoshopping’.
Both Geoff and Jean are well known South West photographers
and their successful prints go to many salons and win
competitions here and abroad. The pair are also very
creative with the Photoshop image manipulation software
and the majority of their lecture covered the ingenious
techniques they use to produce award winning images.
Members were captivated
by both their talk and by the images they showed and
halfway through kept the pair busy with questions in
a tea-break that had to be extended to suit. A very
enjoyable and instructive evening was had by all.
On April the 1st
there will be a practical evening with Keith Mason talking
about making audio-visual presentations and on the 8th
April the club will hold its annual Portrait Competition.
The club is currently holding a photo exhibition in
the South Brent Old School Centre. The event runs until
the end of March and is free to enter, Monday to Friday
10:00 am to 4:30 pm and Saturdays 10:00 am to midday.
Visitors are always welcome to the club meetings and
we meet at Bittaford Community Hall from 7:30pm normally
on the second and fourth Tuesdays in the month. Our
programme, members’ photographs and much more
are all available elsewhere on this website.
