Gritty Image Does Well at DPIC

It has been one just event after another for Members of the Ivybridge & District Camera Club recently, and there is more to come as well, with a month-long exhibition for all of March.

A busy practical evening at the beginning of February with David Rayner discussing colour temperature and white balance controls was followed on the 12th by a members’ travelogue evening, which gave glimpses of Malta, Spain, Mount Washington, France, Mallorca and a ‘return visit’ to Ivybridge! Many thanks to Tony Clements, John Trussell, Keith Mullin, Keith Mason, Sue Bishop and David Rayner for a very enjoyable evening all round.

On the 17th March Ivybridge & District Camera Club competed against 43 other camera clubs in a day-long digitally projected image competition held at Exeter. The Ivybridge fared reasonably well gaining 227 points, with the winners, Newton Abbott coming top with 267 points. Ivybridge member, Geoff Brimblecombe was the club’s highest point scorer with ‘Round the Bend’, a really gritty image of three motorbike riders kicking up the track dust.

The club is holding its annual month-long exhibition of photographs in March. The event is free to enter and this year will feature over 60 mounted images. Many of the photographs were taken for club or inter-club competitions, but others are images where the photographer wished to express a mood or idea. The exhibition runs throughout March, Monday to Friday 10:00 am to 4:30 pm and Saturdays 10:00 am to midday at the Corridor Gallery in the South Brent Old School Centre, Totnes Road, South Brent.

The next practical evening will be on the 4th March followed on 11th March by guest lecturers Geoff and Jean Ashworth with a presentation entitled ‘More Photoshopping’. Visitors are always welcome and we meet at Bittaford Community Hall from 7:30pm normally on the second and fourth Tuesdays in the month. Our programme, members’ photographs and much more are all available elsewhere on this website.

‘Round the Bend’ was Ivybridge & District Camera Club’s highest scoring photograph from the Digitally Projected Image Competition held at Clyst St Mary, Exeter. It was taken by Ivybridge member, Geoff Brimblecombe.
