| Members
of the Ivybridge & District Camera Club were commended
on the consistent high standard of colour prints submitted
to an external judge for the first of the year’s
Open Merit competitions recently. The judge, Mr Ernie
King from Dawlish, said, “It was most pleasing
to see the very high standard of colour print work evident
in a high proportion of the entries – even though
it made judging between the top six places very difficult.”
The meeting was
well-attended and several visitors and new members were
welcomed by Chairman Keith Miller before the evening
was handed over to Mr Ernie King for his judging and
comments.
In the Monochrome
section David Rayner from Ivybridge won first place
with a sepia coloured print of a clock tower within
the ruins of an abbey entitled Ten to Twelve. Second
place was an easy ride for Peter Pearce of Bittaford
with a silhouetted cyclist near Hangershell Rock while
formation flying from a group of birds landed Geoff
Brimblecombe from Ivybridge with third.
The Slide section
was won by David Rayner with an image of Mont-Saint-Michel
reflected in the tidal pools. Another watery scene with
shafts of light pooling on the sea beached Keith Mullin
of Ivybridge in second place while a side-profile Meerkat
in Paignton Zoo presented Keith Miller from Ivybridge
with third.
The top places
in the Colour Print section that gave judge Ernie King
so much trouble were finally resolved with his placing
of Keith Miller’s disturbingly close-up cheetah
in top position. The judge placed a wonderfully detailed
damselfly from Ivybridge member Neil Doggett in second
and a head-and-shoulders portrait of a red panda by
Bernard Howley of Saltash in third. Fourth, fifth and
sixth places were gained by Geoff Brimblecombe, John
Taylor and Keith Mason respectively.
On the 12th February
there will be a range of members’ Travelogues
and on the 26th February members will competing for
the Challenge Cup. Visitors are always welcome and we
meet at Bittaford Community Hall from 7:30pm on the
second and fourth Tuesdays in the month. Our programme,
members’ photographs and much more is available
elsewhere on this website.
