Club Day Out 20082

Saturday 12th July, and an overcast, but promising, morning saw thirty-nine members and guests turn up for a 9:30 start at Steamer Quay, Totnes to take part in the club annual summer outing, which this year was a trip down the river Dart from Totnes to Dartmouth by pleasure boat. With the boat taking well over 150 we were accompanied by a motley bunch of shipmates which included a hen party, a church outing (no f-stop words please) and a party of teenage school kids who were adroitly herded by the rope-touting crew to the rear deck (so that their noise might me carried off in the boat’s wake?). But being at the front of the queue by way of the early start meant we had the pick of the seats!

Members of Ivybridge & District Camera Club commandeer the front deck on the club day out, while 'day trippers' look on somewhat amazed at so many cameras!

As well as the front deck, some of us scrambled up to the top deck...

Soon we are underway and it's time to look around for a few shots...

A light-hearted commentary from the captain pointed out places of interest and wildlife along the river and was well-received by all the passengers.

The Smugglers cottage, which the captain told us is regularly pumped out because of flooding...
The captain puts down his microphone for a tricky maneuver - probably the only time he did so!

Once ashore in Dartmouth, nobody wasted any time getting down to the business of the day...

Many of us visited the ancient cobbled quay side of Bayards Cove at one time or another...

All too soon it was time to leave historic Dartmouth and head for the return boat to Totnes and a cup of tea in the saloon bar or a chance for one of the many photo opportunities missed on the way out. A very good day out was enjoyed by all and many thanks are due to Tony Clements, Keith Mason and Keith Mullin who all took some part in the organisation of the trip.
