New four-way battle success2

The highlight of October was a four-way battle between Ivybridge and three other Devon clubs, Kingsbridge & DCC, Plymouth CC and the Photo Image Club, also from Plymouth. Over 50 visitors, members and guests turned up at Bittaford on the 21st October for this brand-new digitally projected image battle which was judged by four judges, one from each of the clubs. The scoring was undertaken while everyone partook of a buffet tea provided by several Ivybridge members and spouses and for which many thanks were given.

Kingsbridge won the battle with 170 points and so will be the first entry on the Shield. Plymouth took second place, Ivybridge third and Photo Image fourth. With only 22 points between first and last it was a worthy and close-drawn battle with all places not to be sneezed at.

The first-ever DPI Challenge Shield held at Ivybridge's venue squeezed in 56 members, visitors and guests. The four judges, sitting in a row just behind the projector are from the left: Brenda Hutchins (Plymouth); Keith Miller (Ivybridge); Eric Cawsey (Photo Image) and Bob Standing (Kingsbridge). David Rayner, against the left wall, ran the projection computer and Keith Mullin, on the same table announced the titles and computed the scores. Photo by Jim Brown of Kingsbridge

The battle was designed to replace the South Hams Shield slide battle, which had fallen to just two clubs, being a slide battle with increasing difficulty of getting sufficient slides. The new battle, called The DPI Challenge Shield, is a digitally projected image event and brings four clubs (Ivybridge; Kingsbridge; Plymouth & Photo Image) together to make a full evening. The judging method used four judges, one from each club, but with one judge dropping out as that club's image was projected. The rules and marking are broadly similar to the WCPF Digitally Projected Image Competition giving a maximum of 15 points per image. Keith Miller suggested the event and rounded up the four clubs, while Dave Rayner organised the rules and marking system. Thanks are due to the many helpers on the night and those who prepared food in advance, without them the event could not have run successfully. The event was enjoyed by all and Kingsbridge & District CC have agreed to host the event next year, so hopefully this will now become an annual event..
