| The
very last event of 2007 for Ivybridge & District
Camera Club was their Presentation Dinner, this year
held at Tuscany’s Club in Brixton. Deputy Ivybridge
Town Mayor, Councillor Karen Pringle was Guest of Honour
for the evening and after dinner presented the cups,
trophies and awards which members have won during the
year, with competition secretary Keith Mullin making
the announcements.
Many of the awards
were presented to winners who, for the most part, have
already been mentioned in this column throughout the
year. However the Merit League Table for which points
are collected from all competitions is only revealed
at the end of the year, so members were eager to discover
the results.
Merit League Shields
were awarded to members coming top of the league with
prize vouchers for second and third places.
Keith Miller of
Ivybridge took first place in the Slide category, with
Colin Wilkins of Ivybridge coming second and David Rayner,
also from Ivybridge coming third. The
Colour Print Shield was won by Bernard Howley of Saltash
and second place went to Geoff Brimblecombe of Ivybridge
with David Rayner coming third. The
Black & White Shield was won by Keith Mullin, with
David Rayner in second place while Neil Doggett of Ivybridge
took third place.
For the first time
this year there was a further league award called the
National Lottery Digitally Projected Image Shield and
first place was shared by Keith Mason of Ivybridge and
Bob Pike of South Brent. Keith Miller took second place
while Keith Mullin came in third.
Another first-time
award, again sponsored by the National Lottery, was
the year’s Best Progress Shield which went to
Ivybridge member, Tony Clements.
One of the reasons
for inviting the Deputy Mayor as Guest of Honour was
to reveal the winner of the Watermark Competition. This
was a themed competition held on behalf of Ivybridge
Town Council to produce a photograph to be used in conjunction
with a solar-generated power output display and to be
hung in the new Library and Community Resource Building
now called The Watermark which has solar panels fitted
to the roof. Over sixty entries were received for this
competition which had a difficult subject and content.
Entrants had to firmly convey ‘Ivybridge or its
vicinity’ and the theme ‘environment’
as well as to consider the issues of where the electronic
displays and text might eventually be positioned. Judging
was by a panel from the town hall and Watermark architects.
A very surprised and pleased Tony Clements again stood
up to take congratulations from Karen Pringle and be
presented with the first draft of the finished display.
A raffle of member-donated
gifts was held, which raised £79 which has been
presented to the Town Mayor’s designated local
charity this year, the Ivybridge Dementia Support Group.
The evening finished
with a rousing vote of thanks for our Guest of Honour
and for Competition Secretary Keith Mullin, for Robin
Empsall who produces all the certificates and for the
organisers and helpers, not only of the presentation
evening but also of the many events that had been held
throughout the year.
The first meeting
of 2008 will be a digitally projected image competition
on January the 8th. Then on January 15th members will
be viewing and selecting entries for the inter-club
digitally projected competition. Visitors are always
welcome at Bittaford Community Hall from 7:30pm. Our
programme, members’ photographs and much more
are all available elsewhere on this website.
