Of Farm Animals & Digital Projections

Ivybridge & District Camera Club held the year’s third digitally projected image competition recently – a new competition and trophy to be won for the first time this year, by the kind auspices of the National Lottery. This is the final part of the award made to the club last year which also enabled the club to purchase the digital projector and other items. The winner of the trophy is the highest scoring member over the three competitions and will be announced at the presentation evening and dinner in December, with the trophy being presented by Deputy Mayor, Councillor Karen Pringle.

Meanwhile, the third leg held on 23rd October furnished first place to Competition Secretary Keith Mullin with ‘Arches’, a monochrome image taken under stone steps and arches. Second place was gained by South Brent member Bob Pike with ‘Spider Necklace’, a computer manipulation of a dew-covered spider’s web, while third place was taken by Keith Miller with an urban image entitled ‘Rain Reflections’.

On November 9th the club held the Challenge from the Chair competition, which this year had the subject of Farm Animals. There was a large entry, particularly in the Colour Print section but as the competition would be judged internally, the Competition Secretary decided not to implement the ‘R’ rule to remove the third entry from each competitor.

The Slide section was won by Keith Miller with ‘Goat’, a really crisp and well exposed profile. Keith also took third place with an image of a sheep and her lamb called ‘Family Portrait’. Second place was awarded to Ivybridge member Colin Wilkins with ‘Tasty Grass’ which depicted a mountain cow licking her lips.

Bob Pike’s ‘Working Horse’ portrait won the Monochrome section, while Keith Mullin took second place with ‘Horses Ploughing a Field’. ‘Sepia Cow’ by David Rayner from Ivybridge shared joint third with ‘Pig’s Tail’ by Neil Doggett, also from Ivybridge.

The Colour Print section was won by David Rayner with ‘A Slurry of Reflections’, an image of cows under a blue winter sky reflected in a farmyard pool. South Brent member John Taylor took second place with a crisp close up entitled ‘Smiler Pig’, while Sylvia Wilson from Ivybridge shared joint third with Geoff Brimblecombe, also from Ivybridge, with ‘Highland Cattle’ and ‘Dog Patrol’ respectively.

The remaining Tuesdays in November all have meetings, while our AGM and the Best of Year Competition finishes the year’s club meetings on December 4th. The first meeting of 2008 will be a digitally projected image competition on January the 8th. Visitors are always welcome to our meetings held at the Community Hall, Bittaford. This year’s programme, members’ photographs and much more are all available elsewhere on this website.
