| Members
and guests of the Ivybridge & District Camera Club
were treated to an audio-visual trip around the world
when Jenny and Tony Byram visited the club during a
holiday break in the area recently. The promise of a
good show ensured a packed hall and we viewed hundreds
of blended images and listened to perfectly entwined
music from places as far away as New Zealand and Australia
and as close as our very own country. Tony expertly
‘voiced-over’ quiet passages, enthralling
us with the depth of research the pair have undertaken
in search of the fabulous images we saw.
The evening was
thoroughly enjoyed by all and tea break saw many questions
for the pair resulting in a change of plan for the second
half as Tony described the technicalities of making
an audio visual presentation, aided by Jenny at the
computer keyboard. The addition of this item meant we
overran a little at the end, but everyone went home
with new ideas for their own photography.
Just a week later
on October 16th the club held its second Challenge Cup
of the year which saw a substantial entry of both colour
and monochrome prints along with about 15 entries for
the slide section. The competition was kindly judged
by Mr Peter Norwood from Plymouth, who had clearly taken
a good deal of time to evaluate the entries beforehand
as he was meticulous in both his critique and praise.
The Slide section
was won by Chairman Keith Miller with his “Meerkat
on a rock”. Ivybridge member Colin Wilkins took
second place with “Mountain View with Cotton Grass”
and Alan Davey, also from Ivybridge, gained third with
“All Hands on Deck”, a racing yacht image.
“Alpine Reflections” gained Colin Wilkins
a Highly Commended accolade.
A collection of
sea urchins photographed under intense sunshine entitled
“Light and Shade” gained Ivybridge member
David Rayner first place in the Monochrome section with
a dark, mysterious dog image by Neil Doggett, also from
Ivybridge, coming second. “Supporting the Madonna”,
a statue and doorway combination won Competition Secretary
Keith Mullin third place. The judge was pleased with
a number of other prints and awarded Highly Commended
to Graham Buckler, Keith Mullin and Neil Doggett. He
also rewarded Graham Buckler, Tony Clements and John
Taylor with a Commended honour each.
In the Colour Print
section Mr Norwood decided “Walled Garden”
by Bernard Howley from Saltash should come first with
Neil Doggett’s “Emerging Torso”, a
gritty statue manipulation, ranking second. A colourful
sundown image of the Pilchard Inn, Bigbury gained Graham
Buckler third place. The judge also awarded Highly Commended
to Keith Miller and Neil Doggett, while two prints by
Geoff Brimblecombe and one from John Taylor were awarded
the Commended accolade.
All prints were
displayed on presentation panels for the first time
following the kind work of Tony Clements and David Rayner
making them up from pegboard.
November is a busy
month with meetings on every Tuesday. The first meeting
(6th) will be the Challenge from the Chair Competition
with the Federation’s Slide and Print Folios on
the second and third Tuesday. November’s practical
evening will unusually be held at the end of the month
on the 27th. Visitors are
always welcome to our meetings held at the Community
Hall, Bittaford. This year’s programme, members’
photographs and much more are all available elsewhere
on this website.
