Two great competitions on the same evening

Two photograph competitions were held on the same evening when Ivybridge & District Camera Club met at Bittaford for their last Tuesday meeting in September.

The Sports Photographer of the Year Competition, which is colour print only and the brand new Eric Foster Memorial Challenge Cup, which is monochrome only, dovetailed agreeably together to provide a full evening’s entertainment and a demanding task for Plymouth judge, Eric Cawsey, who kindly agreed to judge the photographs for us.

The Sports Photographer of the Year was judged to be Keith Miller with his ‘Flat Out’, a dramatic motocross image taking first place. Second position was awarded to Ivybridge member Geoff Brimblecombe with ‘Round the Bend’ a sidecar and bike shot. Colin Lennox-Jones, also from Ivybridge, took the third accolade with a high speed motor event and spectators in a shower of dust. Eric Cawsey also liked a number of close runners-up and awarded Colin Lennox-Jones and Keith Miller with a Highly Commended each. Neil Doggett and Geoff Brimblecombe were each awarded a Commended rank.

Geoff Brimblecombe also did well in the Eric Foster Memorial Challenge Cup taking both first and second positions with pictures of Dartmoor gates and styles – the theme for this competition. Neil Doggett took the third place with two dogs guarding a gate. Once again judge Eric Cawsey considered close runners-up for praise and Ivybridge member Joyce Trussell won Highly Commended as did Keith Mullin, also from Ivybridge. Keith also took a Commended award as did Ivybridge member, David Rayner.

The Eric Foster Memorial Challenge Cup, introduced to celebrate Eric’s wonderful monochrome work over many years until his sad passing away last November will now be an annual monochrome event.

On October the 9th guests Tony and Jenny Byram will be giving an audio-visual presentation, an event not to be missed. Although the club normally meets on the second and fourth Tuesdays in the month, just a week later on the 16th October we will be holding the second of the year’s Challenge Cup Competitions. The final meeting for October is on the 23rd when we will be holding the last of the year’s Digital Trophy competitions.

Visitors are always welcome to our meetings held at the Community Hall, Bittaford. This year’s programme, members’ photographs and much more are all available elsewhere on this website.
