| The
second half of Ivybridge & District Camera Club’s
2007 season got underway with a couple of busy evenings
after the summer break. First up was a digital photography
practical evening on the 4th September that attracted
27 members and three visitors to hear David Rayner explain
the basics of using layers in Photoshop. After a break
for tea, Club Chairman Keith Miller showed us how he
uses a limited set of Photoshop commands to turn around
a large quantity of photographs in one sitting.
On the following
Tuesday 30 members enjoyed one of our ever-popular Merit
Open competitions and welcomed another new member and
two visitors. There was a good entry of photographs
which, because of the summer break had to be accepted
on the night making a busy evening for all concerned,
but especially Keith Miller, Tony Clements and Colin
Wilkins who recorded the details of 43 colour prints,
26 monochrome prints and 18 slides while the competition
got underway.
The judging was
by members with voting slips and while vote counting
was underway, David Rayner and Colin Wilkins supported
a members’ critique of the photographs submitted.
The high quality of the work and difficulty in selecting
just three for first, second and third places was commented
upon by many members.
The Colour Print
section was won by Neil Doggett of Ivybridge with a
dramatic shot of a Bavarian Castle on top of a rock
outcrop. Ivybridge member Graham Buckler took second
place with Hidden Pool at Bigbury and third was a well-seen
reflection of a bird take-off from a colourful waterway
by Norman Simpson, also from Ivybridge.
Neil Doggett also
won the Monochrome Print section with a bloodcurdling
full-face cat image. Second position was taken by Ivybridge
member Bruce Robinson with a well-composed image of
a girl with umbrella entitled Smiling in the Rain. Graham
Buckler’s dramatic sky in Pilchard Inn won him
the third place slot.
Alan Davey from
Ivybridge won the Slide section with To Windward, a
powerful image of a racing sail ship cutting diagonally
across a choppy sea. Keith Miller took second place
with a pin-sharp meerkat and Colin Wilkins gained the
third spot with Handy Toilet Stop, a rather out-of-the-way
convenience near the top of a remote mountain.
The next club evening
will be on September the 25th when we will be holding
the annual Sport competition. On the same evening we
will be holding the initial Eric Foster Memorial Trophy,
an annual monochrome-only competition inspired by Eric’s
wonderful work he provided for our enjoyment until he
passed away last November. The next practical evening
will be on October the 2nd, while on October the 9th
guests Tony and Jenny Byram will be giving an audio-visual
presentation.
Visitors are always
welcome to our meetings held at the Community Hall,
Bittaford. This year’s programme, members’
photographs and much more are all available elsewhere
on this website.
