Devon camera club wins three-way battle

A three-way photographic battle between a Devon Camera club and two clubs from Cornwall ended with a close result, with Ivybridge and District Camera Club coming in overall winner.

The hosts for the battle were Saltash & District Camera Club and members from the other two teams, Ivybridge and Liskeard, met at the Burraton Community Centre, Saltash on Monday 19th of February to enjoy an interesting and competitive battle.

Plymouth Camera Club’s Eric Cawsey kindly judged the battle, which had three sections: mixed prints, traditional film slides and digitally projected slides. Despite winning the overall competition, Ivybridge narrowly missed out on top print of the evening which was taken by Saltash with an excellent monochrome portrait that judge Eric Cawsey could not fault and gave top points to. Saltash also managed to gain the best slide accolade with a colourful image of an acer tree in autumn, but Ivybridge’s consistently high marks across all images compounded by top points for Kevin Miller’s dynamic motocross image in the projected image class won them the battle. The overall scores were: Ivybridge 363 points, Liskeard, 351 points and Saltash 344 points.

The next interclub competition will be held at Plymouth Camera Club on Thursday the 8th March. Called the Tamar Trophy, the event is an annual monochrome-only contest between a number of Devon and Cornwall Camera Clubs and usually produces some excellent quality images. Visitors are welcome.

Ivybridge and District Camera Club will be running a month-long exhibition of over 60 photographs at the South Brent Old School Centre for all of March. This is a free event, open at the same times as the community library, weekdays until 5:00pm and Saturday until 12:30pm. Refreshments are usually available at most times. All camera clubs above welcome visitors and their programmes can be found by typing in the club names into an internet search engine. Our programme, members’ photographs and much more are all available elsewhere on this website.

Kevin Miller’s winning motocross image, Flat Out gained the maximum of twenty points in the digitally projected image section of the three-way battle.
