| There
were a record number of entries for Ivybridge &
District Camera Club’s Merit Open Competition
on 23rd January. Members’ extra hobby time over
the winter break and increasing club membership saw
a record 52 colour print entries alone.
For competitions
where an external judge is employed the competition
secretary would normally reduce the judge’s workload
by thinning down the number of entries but as this was
an internally judged competition we decided to keep
all entries, enabling David Rayner and Chairman Keith
Miller to re-show and discuss a bigger range of member’s
prints while the votes were counted.
The winning Colour
Print of a magnificent peacock butterfly was entered
by Bernard Howley of Saltash. There was a joint award
for second place, shared between Bernard Howley and
Bob Pike of South Brent, while third position was claimed
by David Rayner of Ivybridge with a night-time image
of the Plymouth Dome with a car streaking past.
The Slide Competition
was won by new member Alan Davey of Ivybridge with a
dynamic image of a sailing ship in full action. Second
and third places were both taken by Ivybridge member
Colin Wilkins, one of which was a swan, surprisingly
not a mountain scene as is usual for Colin’s slides!
David Rayner took
first place in the Monochrome section with a swirling
image of a beach rock formation. Second place went to
South Brent member John Taylor with a stunning image
of a sheep against a moody Dartmoor sky. Colin Wilkin’s
high contrast image, Caradon Engine House, gained third
place.
A new series of
practical evenings starts on February 6th and on February
13th we will be holding our Members’ Travelogues
evening with slides and digital projection. Visitors
are welcome to all events and do not have to become
club members. Looking
further ahead the club will be running a month-long
exhibition of photographs at the South Brent Old School
Centre for all of March. This year’s programme,
members’ photographs and much more are all available
elsewhere on this website.
