Meeting went with a Bang

Ivybridge & District Camera Club members can pat themselves on the back after a resounding success in getting all three of their photographs selected for the Western Counties Photographic Federation’s travelling portfolio. Robin Empsall, Keith Mason and Chairman, Keith Miller, all from Ivybridge, had prints selected.

Robin’s ‘Venice Canal’ was the first to appear during a showing of the portfolio on November 21st and was welcomed by a big show of hands. Keith Mason’s ‘Tower Bridge’ came next, then finally, selected in 11th place out of 100, we were treated to Keith Miller’s ‘The Chase is On’, a dynamic motocross composition.

The following week’s meeting went with a bang as members enjoyed the Chairman’s Challenge Cup competition for which the theme this year was ‘Having a Laugh’.

Ivybridge member David Rayner won the Slide section with an image titled ‘Bang’ showing a large cannon ready to be fired near an equally large lady with fingers in her ears. Keith Miller took second place whilst Keith Mullin from Ivybridge ended up with three slides all equally placed in third position, the result of an unusual quirk of the points scoring scheme used for this competition.

The Colour Print section was won by Graham Buckler from Ivybridge with an outstanding child portrait image entitled ‘Isla and Thalia’. Second place was awarded to Ivybridge member Tony Clements for his ‘Happy Snappers in the Photo Hunt’ and third position was taken by Clive Brown, also from Ivybridge, with ‘Never work with Animals or Children’.

Keith Mullin’s I’m not Laughing’, an amusing composition involving a stone dog statue stealing a lady’s handbag took first place in the Black and White section, while second was gained by David Rayner’s ‘Double Take’. Third position was taken by Keith Mullin with an unusual view of children looking down a roof vent.

On the 5th December we will hold our AGM followed by the Best of Year competition and the following week we will hold the presentation dinner when members will discover how well they have done throughout the year and receive any awards.

Visitors are welcome to attend any meeting from 7:30 pm at the Community Hall, Jubilee Terrace, Bittaford. Further information and directions are available elsewhere on this website
