A Good Position in the Slide Portfolio

Ivybridge & District Camera Club has come to its busiest time of the year with meetings running every week all through November and into mid December.

The last of the present series of digital practical evenings was held on Tuesday 7th November and was well-attended with both visitors and members. David Rayner demonstrated the importance of keeping the number of pixels in digital images high and showed how to keep detail high when reducing images for digital projection – an important subject for many members as the club will be running a new class of competitions throughout next year using the club’s digital projector. In recognition of the lottery award that made the digital projector available, the new competition and trophy will be called the National Lottery Digital Trophy. After tea and discussion, Colin Wilkins showed the final part of his PowerPoint presentation covering camera exposure settings.

Chairman Keith Miller wound up the evening and the series with thanks for the presenters and all who had attended the lectures. A new series of practical evenings will start in February 2007, with subjects being decided based upon a poll of members.

On Tuesday 14th November the club viewed the travelling slide portfolio of 100 slides selected from the entries of nearly 100 clubs throughout the Western Counties. Each club in the federation can enter 3, 4 or 5 slides depending on the size of their membership, so Ivybridge & District members were very pleased to find all three of their entries had been selected for the portfolio. Colin Wilkins’s slide ‘Inside the Waterfall’ was positioned in the top 100 while David Rayner’s ‘Plumed Basilisk Lizard’ was placed in the top 50, but star of the evening’s entertainment was when Keith Miller’s ‘Swan in Flight’ was displayed in 17th place.

The next meeting is on Tuesday 21st November when we shall be viewing the travelling print portfolio and hoping for a similar success rate! On the 28th November we shall be holding the Challenge from the Chair competition and on the 5th December we will hold our AGM followed by the Best of Year competition. Visitors are welcome to attend any event from 7:30 pm at the Community Hall, Jubilee Terrace, Bittaford. Further information and directions are available elsewhere on this website
