A Thunder of Hooves

With the Ivybridge & District Camera Club season well under way, the turn into October saw members hold a pair of meetings just a week apart. First was the annual Sport Print competition for which there was a good selection of photographs submitted this year. Judging was by members using voting slips and while counting of the votes was undertaken, Ivybridge members David Rayner and Colin Wilkins invited members to discuss merits or otherwise of the prints entered, which resulted in a full and enjoyable critique session.

In this competition there is only the one category – mounted prints. Geoff Brimblecombe from Ivybridge won first place with a stunning print of a horse over the fence entitled ‘A Clear Round’. Ivybridge member Kevin Miller took second place with ‘Spreading the Dirt’, a motocross scene with dynamic action. Third place was taken by Plymouth member Ann Owens with a carriage team crossing a stream with water flying from their hooves.

The following week a good turnout of members and visitors arrived for the 5th Digital Practical evening to learn about preparing images for digital projection – a new competition class to be held next year – and to take part in a revision-based workshop.

After tea break Club Chairman Keith Miller explained the intricacies of action photography and panning with the use of a series of sporting slides.

The next meeting is the Challenge Cup Competition on Tuesday 10th October judged by Teignmouth photography expert Mr Ken Holland APRS DPAGB. After this, the meeting entitled ‘Against the Grain’, a rule-breaking evening on October 24th will be held alongside an unmounted 5x7 competition. Visitors are welcome to attend either event from 7:30 pm at the Community Hall, Jubilee Terrace, Bittaford. Further information and directions are available elsewhere on this website
