Although
July and August are normally ‘summer break’
for Ivybridge & District Camera Club, events in
July included a Digital Practical Evening and a day
trip out to Charlestown in Cornwall.
Practical Evenings
have been well attended by both club members and the
general public and we are now halfway through our planned
series of six evenings for this year that will take
us up to November. Attendees have learned a range of
subjects as diverse as how and where to store images,
through processing them for enhanced quality, to printing
out images on photographic quality paper. The evenings
have all been split between digital processing aspects
and general camera techniques providing a range of skills
aimed more at the art of photography than the art of
electronic manipulation. The approach has been successful
- judging by the positive feedback from attendees.
The morning of Saturday
the 15th turned out to be another of those bright sunny
days we’ve had a decent quantity of so far this
summer and some 20 members and visitors turned out at
the working china clay port of Charlestown for our annual
photo day out. High brightness makes for strong colours
and contrasty photographs - not every photographer’s
dream conditions as the deep shadows hide detail. However,
undaunted and cameras in hand, members swarmed over
the charming harbour and village looking for photo opportunities
and a fine day out. First port of call for many was
the tea-rooms and a chance to catch up and swap news
with other members. Others took to the cliff path for
better views over the harbour or searched out quayside
detail that might make an interesting composition. A
very good day out was enjoyed by all and we look forward
to seeing a few of the photographs in the club’s
autumn season.
The next meeting
is a Digital Practical Evening on Tuesday September
5th, followed a week later by the 3rd of the year’s
Merit Competitions. Visitors are welcome to attend either
event from 7:30 pm at the Community Hall, Jubilee Terrace,
Bittaford. Further information and directions are available
