| Ivybridge
& District Camera Club members selected their preferred
panel of photographs to go forward to the Devon Trophy
Competition when they met at Bittaford last week. The
Panel will meet stiff competition from many other Devon
camera clubs in a few weeks time at Paignton.
The annual Nature
Portfolio Competition was also held on the same evening.
With the subject this year being ‘gastropods’,
some very interesting portfolios were both submitted
and enjoyed by members who all voted on the trio of
pictures in each portfolio.
First place
was taken by Ivybridge member, David Rayner with a trio
entitled the ‘The Fastest Snail in the West’.
The portfolio depicted the race of a single snail to
get to the top of a mug of beer, and brought back memories
of relaxing with friends in the cool of summer evenings
outside in the garden, sipping home-made beer at a rate
just slightly faster than the snails could compete with!
Second place was won by Keith Miller, also from Ivybridge
with a selection of crisp looking snails performing
antics on garden rocks. Third place went to Bittaford
member, Peter Pearce with a beautifully printed and
presented black and white selection of snails in various
stretching poses.
Not all entries
were snails however, as members had taken full advantage
of the ‘gastropods’ theme and sought out
slugs and sea creatures too. Chairman Keith Miller commended
the members who had taken part in such a demanding subject
and promised an even greater challenge for next year’s
competition theme.
The next meeting
will be an open evening specifically for visitors to
come and see what the club has to offer and perhaps
to talk with members about the photographs that will
be on display. As well as the photograph exhibition,
a continuous digital presentation previewing our upcoming
series of practical evenings will be running on the
club’s recently acquired digital projector and
a display of old and new cameras and other photographic
paraphernalia will also be on display. Refreshments
will be on hand and entry is free. That meeting will
be held at the Community Hall, Jubilee Terrace, Bittaford
and is on Tuesday May 9 from 7.30 pm until 9.30 pm.
Visitors may pop in at any time during the evening.
