| Despite
what may have seemed like a mass spring exodus to foreign
climes for eclipse photography and other activities,
some 25 members still turned out for the second of the
year’s Merit competitions on Tuesday March 28
and were pleased to welcome Mr Ian Foster from Liskeard
to judge the three sections of the competition.
Ivybridge member
Geoff Brimblecombe snapped up first place in the Monochrome
section with a picture of Averton Gifford estuary. Geoff
also took third place with an image entitled ‘Wet
Feet’ while second was taken by David Rayner,
also from Ivybridge with a night-time shot of the quayside
at Plymouth’s Barbican.
Bernard Howley
from Saltash gained first place in the Colour Print
section with two birds ‘commiserating’ in
the snow, but one was a stone one! David Rayner came
second with a print of an engine house in Cornwall and
Colin Wilkins of Ivybridge took the third position with
an interesting colour manipulated mountain rural scene.
Bernard Howley’s ‘Floridian Blue Bird was
so captivating that the judge felt he had to award it
‘Highly Commended’.
In the Slide
section, Keith Miller from Ivybridge achieved first
place with an image of a swan in flight. David Rayner
came second with a peaceful image of boats at rest among
the reeds, while Colin Wilkins took third position with
‘Crater Bluff’ a towering rock formation,
the outline of which was mimicked by a nearby tree.
On Tuesday April
18 we will be holding the first of a series of practical
evenings and will be demonstrating mounting techniques
and discussing image composition. We are planning to
hold one practical evening a month, interleaved with
our normal programme. Beginning in May, we will be uncovering
the secrets of digital cameras and image manipulation
software. Visitors are welcome to all events and meetings
from 7:15 pm at the Community Hall, Jubilee Terrace,
Bittaford. Further information
and directions are available elsewhere on this website.
