High flying travelogues

The first of Ivybridge & District Camera Club’s February meetings was a well-attended and busy evening. Scheduled as a members’ travelogue event using projected images, the club also squeezed in the selection of prints and slides for the forthcoming inter-club battle with Saltash and Liskeard camera clubs. Members were asked to bring along winning previous prints and slides and a whittling down approach was applied to these, enabling members to take part in the critique and selection process.

Members’ travelogues were started off with a slide projection trip to Ayers Rock, Australia given by Colin Wilkins who although now lives in Ivybridge, has spend many years working in Australia.

Next up was Keith Mason from Ivybridge, who took us on a tour around the Alhambra Palace, Spain using a digital projector to show images from his digital camera. This was followed by a digital trip with Bernard Howley of Saltash to see bird life on the west coast of Florida, USA.

Keith Miller treated us to a motor cross championship meeting in the Isle of Wight where flying through the sky was a common activity for motorcycle riders on their machines but the only birds to be seen were definitely not of the feathered variety. Also using the digital projector, David Rayner from Ivybridge demonstrated the method he used to capture and reproduce a montage of images from the eclipse of the sun taken last October in Spain.

All in all we had a very interesting and different evening indeed, and one that was enjoyed by everyone.

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday the 28th February when we will be pleased to welcome Mr John Hawkins CPAGB from Newton Abbott to judge the Challenge Cup competition. Visitors are welcome to attend from 7:15 pm at the Community Hall, Jubilee Terrace, Bittaford. Further information and directions are available elsewhere on this website.
