High entries for the Challenge Cup

Members were pleased to welcome Mr Les Bennet from Launceston Camera Club on Tuesday 11th October to judge the second Challenge Cup competition of the year.

Once again the number of images entered was high, almost 60, and attendance on the night was correspondingly high too. The club was also pleased to welcome two more new faces.

Over half of the entries were colour prints, as has become normal now that so many members are working digitally and can so produce colour prints at home without recourse to expensive colour processing equipment and chemicals.

Mr Bennet judged the entries critically but with plenty of constructive comments for some of our aspiring photographers. Many of the photographs were well received and some singled out as examples of expert attention to detail - not only in taking the original photograph, but also in the printing and presentation of the image.

Robin Empsall from Ivybridge took first place in the Monochrome section with an intriguing image a woman peering into an old building and entitled ‘curiosity’. Second position was won with a nude study taken by Geoff Miller of Ivybridge and Peter Pearce from Bittaford gained third with a photograph of a traction engine.

Keith Miller of Ivybridge took first place in the Colour Print section with his photo of three motorcross racers battling for a winning position. Second place was taken by Steve Cleave of South Brent with a dramatic and moody photograph of a landscape on the Isle of Skye. Third position went to Colin Wilkins from Ivybridge with a rainbow filled Purley Brook. Mr Bennet also awarded a Highly Commended position to Bernard Howley from Saltash for his image of a pelican.

David Rayner of Ivybridge won first place in the Slide section with an early morning picture of the Barbican Quayside. Keith Miller, also from Ivybridge took both the second and third positions, one with a high flying motorcyclist and the other with a fungus.

The next meeting will be at 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday October 25th at the new community hall, Bittaford when Ivybridge CC will be hosting the annual 3-Way Battle between themselves and local photographic clubs Wembury and Kingsbridge. Mrs Ann Owens from Liskeard & District Camera Club will be judging the event. As always, visitors are welcome to attend and further information plus directions are available elsewhere on this club website.
