Members of the Ivybridge Camera Club exhibited a display of ‘Cameras through the Ages’ at the Ivybridge Garden Association's Rose & Sweet Pea show held at St John's Church Hall, Ivybridge on Saturday 18th June. Regular visitors to the Garden Association's flower shows will be aware that members of the Camera Club normally display examples of their photographs around the hall at such events, but a display of cameras was a ‘first’ for both groups. Members of the Camera Club were on hand all afternoon explaining exhibits to Garden Show visitors and sharing in nostalgic memories of the ‘cameras once owned’ variety. The camera display ranged from pre-war fixed lens and reflex cameras to modern-day digital cameras and giro-stabilised lenses. Slide projection and early cinematic equipment were also on display along with developing and enlarging paraphernalia. Much of the equipment belongs to individual Camera Club members but about half was from the Club’s expanding collection of memorable cameras, most of which have been generously donated over the years. Visitors to the show were also able to vote for their ‘best panel’ of photographs during the day and the panel by Tony Clements of Ivybridge won first place. Other panels were displayed by Christine Brown, of Ivybridge, Peter Pearce of Bittaford, David Rayner of Ivybridge and Keith Mullin also from Ivybridge. A sixth panel showing the Club’s 3rd place panel for the Devon Photographic Clubs Trophy was proudly displayed - an incentive to strive for a first next year!
