The first of the year's Merit Open competitions was held on Tuesday the 25th January at St John's Church Hall Ivybridge. A good turnout of members came to enjoy Mr Don Harris of Launceston judge the photographs and slides. By way of his detailed critique applied to every entry, the evening was much valued by all.

Entries for the competition ran to around thirty for each print section and as usual, somewhat less for the slide section. Chairman Mr Keith Miller said, "The quantity and standard of the work submitted signals the start of an interesting and competitive year."

First place in the Black and White section went to Bob Pike of South Brent with Keith Mason of Ivybridge taking second place. Keith Mullin, also of Ivybridge took third place.
Chairman Keith Miller of Ivybridge took both first and third position in the Slide section with Keith Mullin taking second place.

The Colour Print section was won by Colin Wilkins of Ivybridge but such was the close standard of work submitted that judge Don Harris had to award two entries as joint second as well as a third and two 'highly commended' places. Joint second was taken by Bob Pike and Keith Mason with Keith Miller taking third position. The 'highly commended' spot was awarded to David Rayner of Ivybridge and Clive Brown, also of Ivybridge.

On the 8th of February club members will meet at St Johns Church Hall at 7.30pm for a 'digital' evening. Members Robin Empsall, David Rayner and Keith Mason will each present a different view about digital processing. Visitors are very welcome to attend
